Conservative treatments

Our goal is to utilize all conservative treatments and fully exploit their potential whenever possible before resorting to any invasive or surgical therapy. To this end, we offer a wide range of conservative methods for treating spinal disorders and for pain management.

CONSERVATIVE TREATMENTS

CORTISONE

Cortisone is very effective at inhibiting inflammation, for example in nerve roots, and can reduce tissue swelling. Normally, cortisone is produced as a hormone in the adrenal glands. However, for the treatment of acute back pain, doctors use synthetically produced cortisone. Its side effects are less severe than many people assume, especially when the doctor uses the correct dosage, administers it in a targeted manner, and does not use it too frequently.

SHOCK WAVE THERAPY

Back pain often arises simply from tension in the back muscles. The body tenses these muscles to relieve and immobilize painful areas of the spine. This leads to reflexive compensatory postures and incorrect movements, which ultimately worsen the pain. If medication and heat therapy provide no relief, shockwave therapy can help. The doctor uses a handheld device that, like a small jackhammer, delivers pressure waves into the muscles. The pneumatically generated air pressure shockwaves increase blood flow, stimulate metabolism, and loosen hard tissue. Waste products are removed, and the tension is released.

Infusions against pain and inflammation

Because the body often doesn't tolerate painkillers and other tablets well in high doses and with prolonged use, and stomach problems can occur, we offer special infusion therapies when needed. In this procedure, the active ingredients are administered directly into the bloodstream. This is gentler on the gastrointestinal tract and ensures a faster effect. The doctor usually administers a combination of pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory, and muscle-relaxing medications. Revitalizing agents and vitamin complexes have also proven effective as supplements.

INFILTRATION

With targeted injections of cortisone, painkillers, and local anesthetics, alone or in combination, the doctor can reduce inflammation of nerve roots or in the area of the small vertebral joints and alleviate pain. If necessary, the injection is performed under X-ray guidance to ensure the medication is delivered with millimeter precision directly to the site of action.

PHYSIOTHERAPY

Gentle movement is better than immobilization. Through targeted physiotherapy and exercise training, a physiotherapist can alleviate acute and chronic back pain and prevent the onset of new problems. Using specific techniques and exercises, they loosen tension, strengthen certain muscle groups, and restore the spine's mobility and resilience. Doctors prescribe physiotherapy for the treatment of acute pain, for prevention, and for rehabilitation after minimally invasive and surgical procedures.

All treatments listed here are performed on an outpatient basis in our practice. Hospitalization is not necessary.
