Magnetic resonance imaging – how it works
and why it is so important
MRI – The radiation-free view inside the body
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was discovered in the 1950s. However, it was initially used primarily in the fields of chemistry and physics. It wasn't until the mid-1990s that it was also applied in medicine.
MRI – WHY ARE MRI SCREENINGS SO IMPORTANT, ESPECIALLY FOR BACK PATIENTS
The spinal cord, spinal nerves, intervertebral discs, and muscles are particularly well visualized. Therefore, MRI is often used to diagnose herniated discs and spinal stenosis.
Additional information is obtained by processing the MRI images on a computer. This allows for the creation of 3D representations, for example of the spinal canal.
