SHOCK WAVE THERAPY

Shock wave therapy (also called extracorporeal shock wave therapy ESWT) is a non-invasive procedure that uses high-frequency targeted sound waves.

SHOCK WAVE THERAPY

As early as 1980, shockwave therapy, developed at the Munich University Hospital, was used for the first time worldwide on a patient to break up kidney stones. At the time, this was a medical revolution that eliminated the need for open surgery. In 1988, this procedure was also adopted in orthopedics for the treatment of calcium deposits in tendons.
Today, we use modern shockwave therapy to treat muscle tension and tendon irritation at the elbow ("tennis elbow"). The shockwaves are delivered to pathologically altered muscle and tendon tissue using modern equipment. This therapy is suitable for, among other things:
R

Muscle tension in the lower back

R

Muscle tension in the area of the shoulder blades

R

Tendon irritation at the elbow

SHOCK WAVE THERAPY

The treatment usually consists of several consecutive applications.

Back pain is often caused by tense back muscles. The body uses this tension to compensate for poor posture, such as that often resulting from unfavorable sitting positions while working from home.

Shockwave therapy can significantly alleviate this pain. It works like a small jackhammer, sending pressure waves into the body. This stimulates metabolism and increases blood flow in the treated area. Hardened tissue loosens, waste products are removed, and tension is released.

We use a combination of two different types of shockwaves. First, we treat trigger points in the muscles with radial shockwaves. This loosens the tissue and reduces tension. Then, we treat painful muscle knots (myogelosis) with focused shockwaves that penetrate deeper and target the painful areas.

This therapy has also proven effective in treating tendon irritation at the elbow, which we also perform.

The treatment usually needs to be repeated several times at intervals of one week.
